As asked to me by Gabriel, 12, on the way to Kings Cross where he gets the train to school. Well, I said to him rather anxiously, I had the cover story on T2 only yesterday (see picture). Which I was quite proud of, I tell him.

Then, thinking about the picture on the cover of T2, which recounts the latest book by feminista Angela Neustatter who now regrets working killer hours when her first child was little, I reminded him that I also look after him and his three siblings. “That’s a job, you know.”

“You could always be a newsreader,” he said,  tenderly. “Like Eammon Holmes on Sky.”

“I quite like writing,” I pathetically reminded him, as he ran off to his train, his school day and his future career.
